Pet Ceremonies

A Pet Welcoming Ceremony or a Pet Naming Ceremony is an excellent way to introduce children to the responsibilities of pet care. I discuss everything with your child to make sure they understand these responsibilities, and negotiate payment with them (as well as you, of course!)

What on earth is a celebrant?

Celebrants can tailor a ceremony to your specifications as they work with fewer restrictions on content. A celebrant can include religious content in your ceremony, if you like, whereas a registrar can't. A celebrant is usually independent of any institution.

What kinds of ceremonies can a celebrant offer?

Wedding & Civil Partnership Celebration Ceremonies

These are ceremonies designed to celebrate the legal marriage or civil partnership. Once you have been through the legal marriage or legal civil partnership process at the register office, you can then design your wedding or partnership ceremony exactly as you would like it to be.

Commitment Ceremonies

If you've ever heard anyone utter the phrase "You don't need a piece of paper to show you love someone!" then you've probably heard someone who isn't keen on the institution of marriage. These ceremonies are for people who don't particularly want to go down the legal marriage or civil partnership route, but still want to show their friends and family how committed they are to each other. You can still make vows or promises, and you can still have the whole kit and caboodle, but you don't have the heavy-duty, legal marriage part.

Betrothals

If you know you're going to have a long engagement, some people like to have a betrothal ceremony as part of the road to eventual marriage. These ceremonies act as a marker, and can be extremely beneficial, particularly if your engagement is a long one because you are going to be apart for a time!

Vow Renewals

These ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular, especially for people who want to reaffirm the vows they exchanged on their wedding day. However, they are also popular for people who feel they perhaps didn't get the celebration they deserved on their wedding day for whatever reason, and this time, they want to do it their way!

Naming Ceremonies

With identity becoming more and more important, a naming ceremony can often serve as a formal marker for those who have, for whatever reason, changed their identity. For people who have chosen a new identity for themselves, these ceremonies are an excellent way to introduce yourself to your friends and family. Perfect for a name change after a divorce, too.

Naming ceremonies are also often seen as an excellent alternative to a christening or baptism if you are not particularly religious - although the benefit of a naming ceremony is that you can include elements of faith expression if you want to.

Funerals

A celebrant-led funeral is a very popular way to make sure you give your loved one the farewell they deserve. A celebrant works with your funeral arranger, and will write the service with your full collaboration, easing the pressure on you when things are already difficult enough.

Pet Naming & Pet Welcoming Ceremonies, and Farewell Ceremonies

These ceremonies are designed to help your child understand the responsibilities of pet ownership. Taking a pet into your home is a massive rite of passage, and it can be very useful for children to feel like they are assuming a very real role in the wellbeing and welfare of their pet.

Pet Funerals are another excellent way to introduce children to one of life's most important rituals.

Pet Naming ceremonies are also available for adults whose pet is an important and integral part of their life.

What's the difference between a celebrant and a registrar?

A registrar performs the legal part of your marriage ceremony, with an option to extend and personalise it to a certain extent. A celebrant works with you to design the ceremony you've always wanted, once the legal marriage has been registered. Take a look at my handy guide to the ins and outs of the different types of marriage and wedding ceremony you can have in England and Wales.
